The National Museum, New Delhi building had its cornerstone laid by Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India in 1955, and the building formally opened to the public in 1960.

Among the many masterpieces plus historical, cultural and art objects in the National Museum the following are highlights:
