The Louvre is housed in the Louvre Palace, originally built as a fortress in the late 12th century. Remnants of the fortress are visible in the basement of the museum. Today the Louvre has evolved from Fortress to Palace to mega museum. Below are some details to help you plan your visit to The Louvre.
