The Louvre is housed in the Louvre Palace, originally built as a fortress in the late 12th century. Remnants of the fortress are visible in the basement of the museum. Today the Louvre has evolved from Fortress to Palace to mega-museum. Below are some details to help you plan your visit to The Louvre.
